Just thought I would get things started with a wrap-up of last nights discussion on the DAZ Forums regarding Luxus plug-in and dealing with gamma and bad transparency results. After playing around, I figured out that, by doubling the transparency strength to 200%, I was able to get the transparency to look right. The problem was in Luxus automatically adjusting the gamma on all textures used in material settings. Changing the gamma of a transparency map (or bump map, or specularity map, etc) is that it changes the grey values set up by the artist/vendor who created the material. Since transparency, bump, etc are all dependent on alpha values (meaning white for on, black for off, grey for everything in between) the maps were getting the wrong shades of gray resulting in bad transparency or bump values. In this image, I also double the diffuse value to 200% to brighten the colors. I didn't think to try the render without doing this, so it may not have been a necessary step since the diffuse map is not greyscale. In case you don't know, to raise a value beyond 100%, you must first disable Use Limits in the parameter setting of that particular dial (the small gear icon upper right corner of slider). Thanks for the information. I was having problems with the transparency maps on hair and could not get good results. Thank you for not only telling what worked for you but why it worked. Great explanation, very helpful.
